NAWT Training Programs  

In 1985, the National Association of Wastewater Technicians, Inc. (NAWT), became the national voice of the wastewater industry. NAWT’s goal is to serve as a communication and education conduit for the industry and, through its members, provide diverse wastewater services that maintain a healthful environment.

Basic and Inspector Training  

NAWT has created a successful national certification program for individual sewage treatment system inspection that uses five USEPA-proposed management levels as the basis for inspecting onsite wastewater treatment systems. Over the past four years, NAWT has trained and examined over 2,000 inspectors. Over 1,100 inspectors are registered on the NAWT website. 

On the first day of the two-day inspection course the basics of sewage treatment and system types is covered using a troubleshooting perspective. The second day goes through a step-by-step procedure to conduct a system inspection. 

NAWT Inspectors:

• locate and identify all parts of the onsite treatment system
• assess the condition and operation of each part and determine whether it must be corrected
• complete 8 hours of continuing education every 2 years to maintain their certification
• Contact information for inspectors who have passed the certification exam will be listed on the NAWT website.

RENEWALS: 

As a requirement for recertification you need to earn eight (8) hours of continuing education credits every two (2) years.  These can be obtained by participating in day one of the NAWT Inspector two-day training.   

Of course, if you are trying to become current after the two year period has lapsed for more than one year, you will be required to complete the full two-day training program. 

Included in one day of NAWT training is one year of the annual Certification Registration Fee while the two days of NAWT training includes two years of the annual Certification Registration Fee.
